VOSA ‘Risk Assessment’ programme for Testing Stations

VOSA are currently visiting every Testing Station to carry out a so called ‘risk assessment’ to determine whether or not a VTS is likely to be ‘at risk’ of carrying out bad MOTs. The idea is to give each one a so called ‘risk score’, and then when all the scores are in, to put them into green amber and red zones according to risk. The greens will get less attention from VOSA whereas those in the red will get more visits to check on their performance.

The Trade have expressed concern to VOSA regarding both the underlying principles being used and the nature of the process. Some visits have taken over six hours, others less than an hour. They have also protested about the visits being unannounced and looking into issues completely unrelated to the MOT, like how far motorists travel to get to the VTS for an MOT, whether or not the price is discounted and the condition of the toilets!
